Title: “Painting A Difference”
Details: 20 inches x 16 inches canvas. My techniques include mostly spin art, pour art (paint dripping), and collage including a picture of myself with a paintbrush. Materials include canvas, Acrylic pour paint, cup, wood, drill, nut & bolt, screw, printer, camera.
Artist Statement: “My artwork shows a person painting a black and white world to make it colorful showing that he is making a difference in the world. The paint is colorful to show how a person can change something for the better. The person is on the stool because sometimes we need something or someone to help us. I made the world using spin art because the world can sometimes be confusing. You are colorful and you can also color the world in your own way. You and I matter because we can make a difference. “

Title : “I'm still here”
Details : Word count - 75 (including title)
Artist Statement: “I wrote a short and to the point poem that hints at my battle with depression. Everyday it can be a struggle for me to remember that I matter, so I wrote about all the effort it takes to simply exist, the effort we all put in everyday. People matter because they are still here, and that's all that it takes.”
Sutej Gurram - Honorable Mention 7th grade
Photography
Title : “Just One Drop”
Details : 5,184 pixels x 3,456 pixels
Artist Statement: “ This photograph relates to the theme since the reason I matter is because of everything around me. Without the good in life, you will not see the bad. Without pain, you won't know how it is to be calm. Every small change in life can make continuous changes, just like ripples when a single drop of water falls in stagnant water. Everything around me helps me to matter. This picture shows that I matter because I can make a change for the better and that my voice matters even if people may not listen to it.”

Thank you to all the parent volunteers from both SMS and Cumberland who accepted the invitation to be judges for specific Art categories (we had at least 3 judges for each Art category). Thank you to all SMS teachers, office staff and PTA parent volunteers for the assistance in publicizing this program to make sure it reaches the students. Thank you to Naama Neuman (parent volunteer) for setting up our online entry form and coordinating the entire judging process.
